Harajuku

Takeshitadoori street located on east side of Harajuku, can be described as youngster fashion streets where it is worth paying a visit if you do not mind busy small alley shopping and want to follow the teen age fashion in Japan. In fact many of the Japanese fashion trends originates from Takeshita Dori. Takeshita Dori is a narrow street which stretches about 400 meter with shops, restaurants, cafe, boutiques and fashion goods shops targeted to teen age crowd.

On the west side of Harajuku, you will find more tranquil environment with Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park near by. Walking to Omotesando and Aoyama, the shopping will become more exclusive and world class, with premium brand shops scattered in the fashionable area of Aoyama.

From JR Yamanote Line Harajuku Station Meiji-Jingu exit, You can find Omotesando Hills in about 7 min walking distance.

Omotesando

Omotesando in Aoyama is one of the most artistic street and truly designed and relaxing. One of the prime factors which makes the area different from other, is that are has been noted as one of the prime residential areas in the past.

Omotesando Hills is a spectacular shopping complex opened in 2006, in the middle of Omotesando. The six story building consisting of 3 basement floor and tree above the ground floors is a complete with 130 sophisticated boutiques, shops and restaurants.

Omotesando Hills was developed by the architect Tadao Ando, who designed the architecture to maintain the original atmosphere of the Dojunkai Aoyama Apartments, built in 1927 and as subsequently was replaced by the Omotesando Hills.

The design of Omotesando Hills was aimed to assure that height of the complex is about the same as zelkova trees on the Omotesando streets. The rooftop of the complex is filled with greenery which is designed to blend in the surrouding zelkova trees.

To get to Harajuku take the JR Yamanote line to Harajuku station or use Chiyoda line to Meijijinguumae station. To get to Omotesando or to Aoyama, take the Ginza line or Hazomon line subway station to Omotesando, Gaienmae, or Aoyamaitcchome station.

For access to Meiji Shrine, most convenient is to use the JR Shinanomachi station or get off at Gaienmae staion on Ginza line.

Meiji Jingu

Meiji Jingu is the Shinto Shrine dedicated Emperor Meiji. At the inner precinct or Naien, shrine buildings are found. On the outer precinct or, Gaien visitors can find Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery and Meiji Memorial Hall. What is amazing about Meiji Jingu is that these areas are filled with evergreen forest composed of 120,000 trees which has developed into a natural forest since the construction of the shrine was completed in 1920.

Botanists at the time of the establishment designed the forest so that area will become a full natural forest in 100 years time. To fit the environment of Tokyo, trees such as the chinquapin and camphor trees were planted
