
Ginza was once known as most expensive shopping area you can find in JapanAbut in recent years, the area has become more affordable and some shops are targeted to younger generation. In Ginza, you can find premier department stores and worldfs first class brand boutiques, exclusive restaurants and classy cafe and shops, however, Ginza has also evolved into to more affordable commercial district with opening of Yurakucho ITOCiA and Marronnier Gate which is catered towards more reasonable priced shopping..
The name Ginza comes from the silver foundry founded in Shogunate's era. Ginza started to flourish since Japan was opened to foreign trade in the 1860fs. Western importers brought prosperity and westernized concepts such as gaslights in and westernized buildings in Ginza.
To get to Ginza, take the Hibiya line, Marunouchi line, or Ginz line to Ginza station. Or you can take Asakusa line to Higashi-Ginza station. With Yuurakuchou line get off at Ginza 1-chome station. Also it is about 5 min walk from Yurakucho station on JR line or from Yurakucho station of Yurakucho line. If you intend to go to Kabukiza, adjacent station will be Higashi Ginza station.
Kabukiza Theater, is the special theater for kabuki which was established in 1889. The building is a representation of Momoyama architecture which is worth while paying a visit. If you are interested in Kabuki, but not so well into it to see the whole, act, there is a partial observation ticket available to see only one act. The ticket is limited and can be only purchased on the at a special ticket window before the performance.
