
The name Ebisu originated from the name of beer when a Japanese beer brewing company started a brewery in Meguro in 1887. The forerunner of Sapporo Beer built a brewery and named it Yebisu beer. The Yebisu beer beer brewery moved to Chiba, and the vacant lot was used to redevelop the Ebisu station area to build Ebisu Garden Place.
At Yebisu Garden Place, you can enjoy find almost what you want to look for including various classy and casual restaurants and shops. Also Mitsukoshi department is found in the Ebisu Garden place. The place is recommendable if you have time constraints but you want to do the dine and shop in a relatively isolated and classy atmosphere.
Yebisu Garden Place is about 5 minute walk from Ebisu Station, which is just one station from Shibuya Station on Yamanote Line or JR Saikyo Line. Just follow the sign on Ebisu Skywalk which connects JR Ebisu station with Ebisu Garden Place.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum was originally a residence of princes Nobuko, the eighth daughter of Emperor Meiji. The building was completed in 1933.
After being used as Japanese government official residence, and state guest house, the residence has been converted to be use as museum operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture. The characteristics of Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum is that it is based on European Art Deco style of 1920's and 30's. The architecture was designed by French designer Henri Rapin and interior has been furbished by the imported furniture and goods.
The most important feature of the museum is it is located among the quiet natural surroundings within a greenery and Japanese garden, where visitors can stroll around.
